First French Edition. 12mo. [1]f, iv, [ii], 181, 3 pp. Bound in contemporary mottled sheepskin, smooth spine divided into six panels with gilt compartments, lettered in the second on a tan label, the others tooled with a flower, stars and sprigs, edges of the boards tooled with a gilt roll, plain endleaves, red edges. (Tips of the corners worn, headcaps chipped). Contained within a recent quarter red goatskin drop-over box, red cloth sides, the spine lettered in gilt.

Two small wormholes at head of first three leaves. A very good copy. COPAC records copies at Oxford, Cambridge and Leeds Universities, and there is a copy in the British Library.

Philip Falle (1656-1742) was born on Jersey and wrote the first account of the island, published in 1694. He supplied the description of the Channel Islands for Bishop Gibson's 1722 translation of Camden's Britannia, and in 1734 he published an enlarged version of his history of Jersey.
