PRICE GUIDE FOR NEW BINDINGS
It is difficult to estimate the cost of binding without first seeing the book; please use these prices as a general guide only.
The prices below refer to books up to 10” high. Larger books will cost increasingly more. VAT must also be added for books bound for customers living in Britain. New bindings usually take two to three months to complete.
The simplest binding, in half or full leather, without resewing, edge gilding or extra gilt tooling, costs from £300.
If a book goes through all the processes of unpicking, resewing, rounding, and backing, edge gilding, sewing headbands, as well as the later stages of covering, tooling, and lettering, the cost is from £450.
Full morocco bindings, with gilt panelled back, sides, and inside borders cost from £500.
We can also carry out any necessary mending or cleaning. Please allow an additional sum of at least £50 per volume.
Prices for restoration
Full restoration costs from £300. If some of the work is not required (e.g. staining, new corners or headbands) then the price is reduced accordingly.
Full restoration includes:
- Re-backing in morocco or calf, stained to match the original sides.
- Repairing the corners and sometimes the board edges.
- Sewing head and tail bands.
- Lettering and tooling the spine in an appropriate style.
- Mending the inside joints or supplying new endpapers.
