[196 x 120 x 19 mm]. 153, [3] pp. Bound in the original half red goatskin (faded to brown), marbled paper sides, the spine divided into six panels by raised bands, lettered in gilt in the second, marbled endleaves, top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. (Rubbed). In modern slipcase.

Printed in an edition of 100 copies. A few minor marks but a very good copy. This is William Pickering's own copy, with his signature on the front fly-leaf and his wood-engraved Aldine (device K) bookplate. With a Quaritch catalogue cutting for March 1880 offering this copy for £2 2s. Signature of Christopher Wordsworth with a few marginal textual notes in his hand. With a small printed cutting: "Very rare: the author printed only 100 copies, and of these destroyed in 1856, all that remained saving about 40 copies he had given away". Bought from Pickering & Chatto in 1992.
