Only one hundred copies of this book were printed, of which this is number 64. Printed on handmade paper, this is a copy of an Elizabethan translation from 1588 of six of the Idylls by Theocritus, and was reprinted from a unique copy in the Bodleian. It is notable for being a book of firsts for the Daniel Press. It was the first book they printed with an illustration in; the first book printed on a decent press; the first book in a quarto format; the first to feature small artistic printer's ornaments; the first book to be priced; and the first book for which they issued a prospectus. A good copy of this important work by the Daniel Press.
