It is number 4 of the Lungarno Series printed for Orioli by The Tipografia Giuntina in Florence. The colophon states: "This work lacks the author's final revision, and has been printed from the manuscript exactly as it stands". There are in fact some differences between the holograph manuscript and the Orioli text. It is dedicated to Frieda and the opening sentence recalls her elopement with Lawrence in 1912.
