Works. POPE (Alexander).
Engraved frontispiece portrait and 11 plates.
Six volumes. 12mo. [179 x 102 x 155 mm]. [2]ff, xxiv, [i], 26-294 pp; vi, 342 pp; iii, [i], 289 pp; vii, [iii], 277 pp; xii, 282 pp; xiv, 338 pp. Bound in contemporary sheepskin, the covers with a blind double fillet border. The spines divided into six panels by raised bands flanked by gilt double fillets, lettered in the second on a citron goatskin label and numbered in the third on a green goatskin label, plain endleaves, red sprinkled edges. (Headcaps chipped, corners worn, rubbed).
Edinburgh: printed by A. Donaldson, and sold at his Shops in London and Edinburgh, 1767
There is occasional light marginal damp-staining and spotting, and vol.3 has a few small wormholes in the inner margin. It is a good set. The labels are lettered "Oeuvres de Pope" and the bindings appear to be continental.
The title-page on vol.2 has the ink signature "Hon.ble Mrs Dillon". This is presumably Charlotte Dillon, daughter of George Lee, 2nd Earl of Lichfield, and a great grand-daughter of Charles II and Barbara Villiers. In 1744 she married Henry Dillon, 11th Viscount Dillon, Irish peer and colonel proprietor of Dillon's Regiment.
